Activist Fights Religious Discrimination in Florida Schools.
Update September 17, 2024:
A lawsuit has being filed against the Broward County School System for alleged religious and viewpoint discrimination under the Florida Religious Freedom Restoration Act (FRFRA) and Section 871.04. The Church of Satanology and Perpetual Soirée sought permission to display advertising banners at two schools but was denied without explanation. Meanwhile, Christian-affiliated banners were allowed at other schools, highlighting inconsistent treatment. The church argues that this constitutes religious discrimination and a violation of free speech under the First Amendment. The lawsuit seeks damages, legal fees, and injunctive relief.
Hi, I’m Chaz Stevens, an activist fighting for First Amendment rights, especially the separation of church and state. Over the years, I've used my voice and creative tactics to challenge the presence of religious favoritism in public institutions—from erecting Festivus poles in city halls to requesting Satanic invocations at government meetings. Now, I’m facing a new battle, and I need your help.
Recently, I requested to fly a Satanic banner at Westgate Middle School in Parkland, Florida, in response to the school displaying a Christian church banner. After months of delays, my request was rejected, while other schools in the District continue to display religious signs. This is a clear case of religious discrimination and a violation of constitutional rights.
Not good in my book, so ….
I’m pushing for the installation of Church of Satanology banners across all 63 public school districts in Florida. This campaign will challenge religious favoritism in public schools, arguing that if schools allow one religion to display banners, they must permit all religious expressions equally. This effort aligns with my broader activism for religious equality, including my previous campaign to ban the Bible in schools. We’ll leverage federal laws like the First Amendment and Florida's Religious Freedom Restoration Act to argue that public institutions must maintain religious neutrality. This initiative aims to provoke discussions around freedom of religion, government impartiality, and viewpoint discrimination in public spaces.
With your support, I can take this project across Florida and ensure that religious equality and freedom of speech are protected for everyone—whether they pray to Jesus, Allah, or even Satan. But battles such as these are costly, and that’s where you come in!
Why Your Support Matters
Religious freedom isn’t just about defending popular beliefs. It’s about ensuring that all faiths—even controversial ones—are given equal protection under the law. By fighting this case, we’re standing up for every individual's right to express their beliefs, free from government favoritism.
Let’s show Florida that the First Amendment isn’t just for some—it’s for everyone.
